Course Architect: Greg Nash
Description:
The Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort is a
Mobil Four-Star and AAA Four-Diamond, full destination golf resort
nestled in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains on 500
acres of high Sonoran Desert. With 45 holes of spectacular golf,
it is the largest golf resort in Southern Arizona. Two championship
18 hole layouts are situated at the Golf Club, while a superb 9-hole
track plays around the resort further up the mountainside. All the
golf is fun to play, especially now that the extensive refurbishments
by original architect Greg Nash are finished and in place.
Each of the two courses at the Golf Club are exciting and play
very different from each other. Both the Canada Course and the Conquistador
Course wind through numerous stands of mesquite trees offering a
parkland feel in a desert environment. Many desert washes and arroyos
run adjacent to the fairways and gobble up any errant tee shot.
The greens are generous and very fair, but knowing where or where
not to go on the approach can capture a birdy or yield a bogey just
as easily. Closer to the resort at the Pusch Ridge course, the golfer
plays from elevated tees to sloping fairways and more often than
not, back up to an elevated green overlooking the valley floor below.
The
Conquistador & Cañada Courses
At our Golf Club, just seven minutes from the resort by shuttle,
are two championship 18-hole layouts. Each course is exciting and
plays very differently from the other. Both the Cañada and
Conquistador courses wind through numerous stands of mesquite trees
offering a park-like feel in a desert landscape. The Conquistador
is an exceptionally playable course where the desert rarely comes
into play. The Cañada retains the charm of the popular high-desert
courses and demands a good deal of strategy and every club in your
bag.
Pusch Ridge Course
Encircling the El Conquistador resort is one of the best kept golf
secrets in Tucson - the 9-hole Pusch Ridge Course. It is by no means
an executive course. The golfer plays from elevated tees to sloping
fairways and more often than not, back up to an elevated green.
The layout makes full use of the ravines and ridges as well as indigenous
cactus and trees to challenge any player.
